Donald P. McNerney, CPA
Shareholder, Co-Managing PartnerDon is a recognized tax specialist, and is a much sought-after business advisor. Don began his career in 1976 at Arthur Andersen & Company. He opened his own CPA firm in 1981, and merged his practice with Haynie & Company in 1986. Don has been the Managing Partner of the firm since 1986. Throughout his career, Don has had the good fortune of working with bright, hard-driving entrepreneurs, and many have remained his clients for over 30 years.
Don’s expertise includes an extensive concentration in real estate, including: construction, development, and management. He has been involved in all aspects of real estate for his clients, including coordination with attorneys, tax compliance, and extensive tax planning. Working one-on-one with the owners of closely held businesses, Don gains the confidence of all parties involved in all transactions, and is able to provide useful assistance throughout the entire real estate project. Don has an additional area of expertise, aside from real estate, in assisting his diversified clients in determining the best entity for them to use in their businesses, i.e., whether they should form a Corporation, S Corporation, Limited Partnership, or LLC. Don’s unique ability to really understand the business, and to consider not only the immediate needs of his clients, but also their long range goals, allows him to zero-in on the best form of business entity for his clients to use.
Don has been married to his wife, Sheila, his high school sweetheart, for 43 years, and they have lived in Orange County for over 35 years. They both attended the University of Southern California and they have three children, and seven grandchildren.
Steven C. Gabrielson, CPA, CVA
Shareholder, PresidentSteve is the President of Haynie and Company, CPAs, and serves as Director of Litigation Services. Steve began his public accounting career in the 1970s with Haynie & Company’s Utah office. Before moving to California in 1985, he served as President of the Utah Association of CPAs and on the Utah state board of accountancy.
Prior to moving to California in the mid-1980s to found the California office of Haynie & Company, Steve had already established himself as a nationally recognized expert in income and estate taxes, having spoken at such well-known conferences as the New York University Annual Institute on Federal Taxation and the University of Miami Annual Institute on Estate Planning (now known as the Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning). He served on the planning committee for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Annual Advanced National Estate Planning Conference for 12 years and was a speaker each year. Steve also has an extensive background in litigation consulting and testimony, and has testified in both jury and bench trials in state and federal court over 50 times. His testimony has covered economic and damage analyses in connection with various types of commercial disputes as well as personal injury and wrongful death cases. Steve has also testified in professional liability matters. Steve is a past planning committee member and twice Chair of the American Institute of CPAs Annual Advanced Litigation Services Conference. Steve is also a past President of the Forensic Expert Witness Association. In addition, Steve is a Certified Valuation Analyst (a CPA trained in the field of business valuation) and testifies on business valuation matters.
Steve’s practice today encompasses income, estate and trust planning and taxation, structuring and planning for family and closely held businesses, exit planning strategies for business owners, business valuation, and dispute resolution including expert testimony in trials, arbitrations and mediations.
Michael L. Zurovski, CPA, CVA, CFS
Shareholder, Audit PartnerMike, the Director of Assurance Services, is a specialist in financial reporting and disclosure. His area of expertise encompasses closely held private companies in industries such as real estate, construction, professional service organizations, manufacturing, and wholesale trade. After graduating from California State University, Northridge, Mike began his career in public accounting with a national CPA firm in Beverly Hills working largely with clientele in the garment manufacturing and textiles industries. He joined Haynie & Company in 1990, shortly after he and his wife, Silvia, relocated to Orange County.
Mike has served as a member of the Board of Directors on for-profit and not-for-profit organizations assisting them with navigating the myriad of accounting and reporting regulations and mediating differing viewpoints on challenging matters. He has also served as an advisor to the State of California during their process of implementing audit guidelines for projects under the Housing Finance Agency. Mike strives to reach the best possible solution for everyone involved in a project whether it’s the ultimate end user, the client organization, or the staff working on an assignment. His accomplishments in the fields of assurance and litigation support are evidenced by his continued referrals from existing clients and business associates.
In addition to his role in the assurance field, Mike is in charge of recruiting and fostering the continued development of new professionals at Haynie & Company. He routinely participates in discussion panels at local universities during recruiting events and has supported local accounting professors and organizations through guest speaking arrangements.
Mike is a passionate leader and proudly represented the United States during track and field competitions in Korea and Taiwan. Although his days of sprinting are behind him, he currently enjoys running endurance races, fine-tuning his golf game, and experiencing the open road while riding his latest Harley.
Jeffrey McNerney, CPA
Shareholder, Co-Managing PartnerJeff grew up in Laguna Niguel, California and began his public accounting career at KPMG. He has been working at Haynie & Company since September of 2011. He graduated from the University of Southern California with his degree in Accounting.
Jeff specializes in income, estate and trust tax planning, tax compliance and taxation, structuring and planning for family and closely held businesses and exit planning strategies for business owners.
Jeff’s clients include a wide range of industries and professions, some of which include real estate development/management and brokerage, professional sports, attorneys, doctors, restaurant owners and financial professionals.
Matthew Henry, CPA
PrincipalMatt grew up in Tulare, California and has been working at Haynie & Company since February of 2002. He graduated from Cal State Fullerton with his degree in Accounting.
Lynn Kamada, CPA
RetiredLynn began her public accounting career in 1981 when she joined the firm of Haynie, Larson, and Gabrielson in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1985, she relocated to Newport Beach along with Steve Gabrielson and Dave Shomaker, where they opened the second office of the firm now known as Haynie & Company.
Lynn graduated with honors from Boise State University, in Idaho, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. She has been a licensed CPA in California since 1985, and a Principal in the firm since 2000 until her retirement in January 2024.
Lynn has extensive experience with a wide variety of companies. These have included construction companies, public employee unions, medical and other service providers, wholesalers, manufacturers, and non-profit organizations. She is a specialist in small business accounting systems, including advising on computer hardware and software purchases, implementation, set-up, streamlining of accounting processes, and systems practices and procedures. Lynn’s expertise in the area of management advisory services includes providing in-house controllership services, property, sales, corporate tax guidance and compliance, strategic planning, assistance with personnel, and payroll issues.
Lynn is currently serving as an outside consultant with the firm on an as-needed basis.
